SHILAJIT CLINICAL TRIALS ON HUMANS
TESTOSTERONE LEVELS TREATMENT
The clinical evaluation of purified Shilajit in healthy volunteers aged between 45 to 55 years treated for consecutive 90 days significantly increased the total testosterone, free testosterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEAS). Gonadotropin hormones requited for increasing productivity of sexual hormone levels were also evaluated to be well maintained.
SHILAJIT BASED FORMULATION IN ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a brain disorder with constant expansion and impact. A study on a group of 16 patients with probable Alzheimer’s disease evaluated the cognitive effect of Shilajit-based formulation. A defined tests set were performed for all subjects at week 0, week 12, and at the end week 24. Results showed that Shilajit with its active ingredient fulvic acid, as well as a formula of Shilajit with B-complex vitamins, is a novel nutraceutical with potential uses against this brain disorder2.
PROMOTED HUMAN SKELETAL MUSCLE ADAPTATION
Studies on oral supplementation of purified Shilajit extract revealed a promotion in skeletal muscle adaptation in adult overweight through up regulation of ECM-related genes that control muscle strength, elasticity, repair, and regeneration3. The Study was conducted on overweight/obese adults exercising 30 min a day only 3 days a week for 4 weeks.
SHILAJIT EFFECTS ON SKIN
Study on supplementation of a higher dose (250 mg bid) of Shilajit improved skin perfusion. Preliminary evidence demonstrates that oral Shilajit supplementation in healthy adult women induces genes relevant for endothelial cell migration and blood vessel growth. Supplementation with Shilajit improved skin micro-perfusion.
SHLAJIT EFFECTS ON BLOOD CHEMISTRY
In a study, 20 healthy volunteers were given 2000 mg of processed Shilajit in capsule form for 45 days. The results indicated no significant changes in heart rate, blood pressure, or body weight. Furthermore, Shilajit had no effect on glucose, urea, creatinine, uric acid, total protein, albumin, albumin / globulin ratio, alkaline phosphatase, ALT (alanine amino transferase, SGPT), Or AST (Aspartate Amino Transfers), SGOT). The results in these experimental conditions found no evidence of systemic toxicity caused by Shilajit5.
SAFETY AND SPERMATOGENIC ACTIVITY
Study on 60 infertile male patients has been evaluated for safety and spermatogenic activity while consumption of processed Shilajit. The processed Shilajit capsule (100 mg) was administered twice a day after the main meals for 90 days. The study evaluated that Twenty‐eight patients who completed the treatment showed significant improvement in total sperm count. The findings also provide further evidence of the spermatogenic nature of Shilajit, particularly when administered as Processed Shilajit.
SHILAJIT CLINICAL TRIALS ON ANIMALS
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND ANTI-ARTHRITIC EFFICACY IN MODERATELY ARTHRITIC DOGS
Study of Purified Shilajit on moderately arthritis dogs was conducted to evaluate its efficacy and safety. Shilajit (500 mg) given twice on daily basis for a period of five months revealed that dogs showed significance in physical parameters. Shilajit was well tolerated by dogs with moderate arthritis.
ANTIDIABETIC AND ANTI-OXIDATIVE ACTIVITY IN RATS
Shilajit prevented diabetes in the non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice model. It prevented diabetes in rats10 and also Shilajit did not show any antioxidant activity. The preventive action of Shilajit in diabetes is mainly focused on the activities of body defensive cells, as the activity of these cells is significantly up-regulated. Shilajit, however, showed slight controlling action for prevention of diabetes.
IMPROVES BURNS IN RATS
The most important factor in healing wounds, especially the burn wound is preventing its infection. Shilajit is the natural compound derived from plants in the Rocky Mountains. Research has shown that it has an inhibitory effect on the growth of Pseudomonas – a microbial infection. Experiments were done on three groups of mice that were burned with 10 repetitions. The results showed that there was a statistically significant improvement in the use of Shilajit. This healing appears to be associated with inhibitory effects of Shilajit on the growth of bacteria, the elimination of inflammation, the increase in growth factors, and the synthesis of collagen and other factors11.
